The Amazon is home to some 40,000 types of plant species.  A trip to the Amazon is something that will leave you with forever lasting memories of just how beautiful, vast and interesting this other world is.  In this article, we’ve decided to narrow down to “5 of the Amazon’s most interesting plants”. Even though there are another 39,995 plants to choose from, you’ll soon see why we chose these ones.

1. Heliconia Flower (Lobster Claw)

The heliconia flower is mostly known for it’s distinct red colour and shape.  These types of plants can generally grow up to 4.5m tall and provide a feeding ground for Hummingbirds.

2. Cacao

Our list of 5 of the Amazon’s most interesting plants would not be complete without mentioning the cacao plant.  Cacao is where we derive all of our delicious chocolate from.  There are actually many health benefits associated with eating raw cacao which makes it all the better to enjoy.  Therefore, you should look some of them up so you have an excuse to splurge on some more chocolate!

3. Passionfruit Flower

The passionfruit flower is a vibrant mixture of dark and light purple.  On the stem of this plant, you’ll find a vine that can cling on to almost anything.  If you look a little closer, you’ll also notice some delicious passionfruits!  Who would have thought that these delicious fruits came from such a beautiful flower?

4. Coffee Plant

Just like chocolate, coffee is another staple ingredient for our daily lives.  Coffee plants can be found sporadically throughout the Amazon rainforest and provide many health benefits to the indigenous people of the Amazon.  Quite often, these plants can usually be noticed by the little red berries which contain the coffee beans inside.

5. Rubber Tree

The rubber tree is a significantly important tree to the indigenous people of the Amazon.  The sap from the tree provides them with latex and is used all over the world for producing rubber.  You can find this tree in Southeast Asia now thanks to illegal smuggling of the seeds.
